Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing

The Psychiatric (Mental Health) nursing department aims to provide quality education in Psychiatric Nursing to Diploma, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate Nursing Programmes. The department conducts research to promote mental health and prevent mental illness in individuals, families, and communities. It provides Evidence-Based Nursing care for mentally ill patients focusing on Promotive, Preventive, and Rehabilitative aspects. The department faculty and students collaborate with the multidisciplinary health team to carry out mental health promotional activities for the community. The department is committed to providing opportunities for the professional growth of the students and faculty.

Services

The departmental faculty and students actively participate in community extension activities. The department observes World Suicide Prevention Day, World Alzheimer's Week and World Mental health week every year to create awareness to the general public. The department also provides a Life skill training Programme for Fresher’s and NSS Volunteers of the college.

The students are given the best clinical exposure at the Psychiatric ward, OPD and De-addiction wards of K.S. Hegde Hospital. Second-year P.G. students are sent to the National Institutes of Mental Health and Neurosciences Bengaluru for advanced clinical training. In addition, students get learning exposure to Nitte Rural Psychiatric Centre, Karkala, Udupi District, Karnataka.
