This certificate course is a comprehensive program designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge and expertise for entry level employment in palliative care units. Caring a patient requiring palliative care involves various complex psychological, spiritual and ethical issues which creates a lot of stress among the nurses. So, this course for nurses is essential, as it prepares the nurses to handle such complex situations effectively.

Objectives

  • At the end of the course the students will be able to
  • Appreciate the role of the nurse in providing and teaching families to deliver quality palliative care for patient.
  • Demonstrate skills in communication in handling parents and patients requiring palliative care
  • Describe various drugs used in palliative care
  • Provide relief from pain and other distressing symptoms by using various non pharmacological methods
  • Integrate the psychological and spiritual aspects of patient care
  • Offer a support system to help patients live as actively as possible until death
  • Offer a support system to help the family cope during the patient’s illness and in their own bereavement
  • Use a team approach to address the needs of patients and their families, including bereavement counseling, if indicated
  • Create positive influence in the course of illness by enhancing quality of life
  • Affirm life and regards dying as a normal process

GNM/PB BSc (N)/BSc (N)/MSc (N) students, Assistant Lecturers, Staff Nurses

Duration : 80 hours
Selection : Interested and motivated candidates will be selected

The course commences as per the date prescribed by the University, most likely during the first week of August. The exact date will be communicated by the Institution.
